Queensland selectors have named a squad filled with experience for the first Women's State of Origin game this month.

The historic series, the first to be played over three matches, begins on May 16 at Lang Park.

Queensland won last year's State of Origin on aggregate, scoring four more points than New South Wales in the two-match series.

The Maroons have picked a 20-woman squad featuring 16 who took the field during last year's series.

Burleigh Bears halfback Lauren Brown returns to the squad, having last appeared for the Maroons in their 20-14 defeat to the Blues in 2022.

Maroons coach Tahnee Norris believes the squad selected for the series opener is good enough to get their State of Origin defence off to a winning start.

"I'm really pleased with where this group is at," Norris said.

"We've got a few players unavailable through injury, but otherwise we've stayed with a winning combination."

Selectors have rewarded three uncapped players in the squad.

Sienna Lofipo and Skyla Adams have been called up after impressing at under-19s last year, while Norths Devils 21-year-old forward Makenzie Weale has also forced her way into the squad.

"Their selection showcases the strength of the [QRL Women's] premiership and our representative pathways, with these girls now getting the opportunity to step up into the senior Maroons squad," Norris said.
