Over the past 18 months inflation has dropped from a peak of 7.8 per cent down to 3.6 per cent.

Figures out today from the ABS show the actual inflation that most of us experience is much higher than that, around 6.5 per cent.  

So what's going on and can we really trust the Consumer Price Index as a measure of the cost of living?
