The lawyer representing a former NSW Police officer charged with murdering Jesse Baird and Luke Davies says his client's defence may involve mental health elements.

Beau Lamarre-Condon has been in custody since February after he handed himself into Bondi Police Station and was charged with two counts of murder.

During a short mention of the case on Tuesday, Downing Centre Local Court heard a partial brief of evidence has been served.

Mr Lamarre-Condon did not appear for the brief mention and the matter was adjourned until June 18.

Outside the court, his lawyer John Walford told the media he was still unsure how his client would plead.

He said mental health would "probably" form part of the defence.

Mr Walford also said his client was "OK" in custody.

"He's OK, for the most part, he's OK," he said.

"It would be very tough for him at the moment, but it's tough for everyone."

The former constable's arrest followed the discovery of a significant amount of blood in Mr Baird's Paddington home, in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Detectives allege a police-issued handgun was discharged in the home.

Police have previously said there had been a "relationship" between Mr Baird and Mr Lamarre-Condon.

Mr Lamarre-Condon initially did not cooperate with police as they searched for the bodies of Mr Davies and Mr Baird.

But just over a week after the couple was last seen, they were found at a rural property at Bungonia, about 200 kilometres south-west of Sydney, in surf bags.

That discovery was made with "assistance" from the accused, police said.

The 28-year-old has since been removed from the NSW Police Force.

Police first appealed to the public for information after a worker discovered bloodied clothing and other items in a skip bin near a club at Cronulla, in Sydney's south.
