The Melbourne Renegades have sacked their BBL coach, David Saker.

The Victorian first took over at the 'Gades in 2015 but left after a season when he got the call-up to Australian national duties as the fast-bowling coach.

Saker came back to the Melbourne franchise in 2021, leading it to a finals berth just once in his three seasons in charge.

The Renegades finished last in BBL 11 and second last in BB13, with just three wins in the season just passed.

Melbourne Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said the club expects better.

"The Renegades as a club, and our members and fans, have very high expectations," he said in a statement.

"Our performance this season did not align with our commitment to achieving ultimate success.

"It was therefore in the club's best interests that we make changes that give us the best chance of success moving forward - that includes a change of leadership in our senior coaching position."

Saker did have a contract through until the end of the 2024-25 season but has now had that torn up.

"On behalf of the club and our players, I'd like to thank David for his service to the Renegades across four seasons," Rosengarten said.

"We recognise the energy and experience he has brought to the role, and we thank him for his efforts and passion."

Saker has also had coaching roles with England, Sri Lanka, the United States and Victoria.
