Police allege a 36-year-old man from Tweed, Ont., took a taxi to a rural part of nearby Madoc, stabbed his driver, stabbed a man and a woman inside a home, and fled in a stolen vehicle before being found, arrested and charged.

In a news release, Ontario Provincial Police said the attacks happened Wednesday between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.

The accused took the taxi to McCann Road in Eldorado, about 50 kilometres north of downtown Belleville, police said.

He then allegedly stabbed the 59-year-old driver, who drove himself to a nearby gas station for help with life-threatening injuries.

A 59-year-old and a 64-year-old who'd been in a home also ended up being stabbed, police said. They also suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accused drove away in a stolen vehicle and was found by police on an unspecified part of Highway 62, which connects Bancroft and Prince Edward County via Belleville and Madoc.

Police said he was arrested without incident and faces seven charges: three counts of attempted murder and one each of breaking and entering, stealing a vehicle and mischief over $5,000.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 2.
