NC's Aga Ruhullah files nomination for Srinagar

Syed Rizwan Geelani

Srinagar, Apr 25:  National Conference (NC) senior leader and former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Aga Ruhulla Thursday said that his party's manifesto was to flag concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Parliament and make New Delhi aware that decisions taken on August 5, 2019, were "unacceptable" for the people of the region.

Ruhulla filed his nomination papers from the Srinagar parliamentary constituency on Thursday.

He was accompanied by the party's senior leaders including NC President and three-time chief minister Farooq Abdullah, NV Vice President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah, and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Vikar Rasool Wani.

Talking to reporters after filing his nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO), Ruhulla said NC's manifesto was to represent the true voice of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We are committed to raising the voice of Jammu and Kashmir in the Parliament. We will take J&K's voice there and make them aware that decisions taken on August 5, 2019, are unacceptable to the people of J&K," he said.

Ruhulla said that he did not contest Lok Sabha polls for any competition.

"I am here to talk about people and their emotions, to express the feelings that have emerged after the decisions of 2019," he said.

After Ruhullah filed the nomination papers, NC and Congress held a joint rally at the JKPCC office in Srinagar wherein the leadership of both the parties announced their support for each other as part of the INDIA bloc.

Addressing the gathering, Ruhulla said that the youth of Srinagar and other central Kashmir parts have been suppressed during the last four years.

JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani in his address announced the party's support to the NC candidates in Kashmir and said that the NC was supporting all Congress candidates in Ladakh and Jammu.

"Our candidates are Omar Abdullah, Aga Ruhulla, and Mian Altaf in Kashmir. Our party's high command has decided to support NC in Kashmir. After the culmination of elections in Jammu, we will campaign for NC candidates here in Kashmir," he said.

Wani said that NC and Congress would win all six seats from J&K and Ladakh.

"Our candidates will win with a huge margin and the common agenda of the INDIA bloc is to remove the communal forces and give a secular government to the people of India," he said.
