A large section of National Highway 313, a lifeline connecting Arunachal Pradesh's Dibang Valley, was washed away Wednesday by a landslide, halting movement on this crucial roadway for at least three days.

Visuals of the section of the highway connecting Anini in Dibang Valley district to Roing in Lower Dibang Valley shows a whole section of the highway completely washed, leaving a large crevice in a section of the highway.

Disturbed to learn the inconvenience being caused to commuters due to the extensive damage to the highway between Hunli and Anini. According to a district official, this was caused by landslide triggered by incessant rainfall in the area in the last few days.

On Wednesday night, the Deputy Commissioner of Dibang Valley district issued an advisory asking people to avoid travelling to the road till it is restored and "rainfall returns to normalcy," adding that it is anticipated that the restoration will take at least three days.

Till that time, connectivity in this region - which is located in the North Eastern most corner of Arunachal Pradesh and shares a border with China in the North - is expected to significantly impaired.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu wrote on X, "Disturbed to learn the inconvenience being caused to commuters due to the extensive damage to the highway between Hunli and Anini. Instructions have been issued to restore the connectivity at the earliest as this road connects Dibang Valley to the rest of the country."
