Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra  is set to campaign for the first time in South Gujarat. She will address a public meeting in Valsad's Dharampur town on Saturday.

After Priyanka, on April 29, Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally at Patan in north Gujarat where the party has fielded its former MLA Chandanji Thakor.

Congress star campaigner Gaurav Pandya said, "It is for the first time that Priyanka Gandhi is coming to South Gujarat… she has never come down here. From the Gandhi family, Rahul Gandhi had last meeting here near Vansda for the 2022 state assembly election amid the Bharat Jodo yatra."

"The Darbargadh ground, which has capacity to gather over 60,000 people, has been fixed as the venue. We are expecting people from six Lok Sabha seats, including Valsad, Navsari, and Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman,"  he further added.

Congress's Anant Patel said, "People are eagerly waiting for Priyanka Gandhi. The videos of her reply on the mangal sutra row linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi have gone viral. We are working aggressively to make the event a success."

Anant Patel, the party's face in Valsad, is contesting against the BJP's Dhaval Patel who will be fighting his maiden election.  While the seat was won in the 1996 and 1999 Lok Sabha election by the BJP's Manibhai Chaudhary, the Congress's Kishan Patel secured a victory in the constituency in  the 2004 and 2009 elections. The BJP's K C Patel won the seat in 2014 and 2019. The constituency has a large majority of tribal voters.

Congress' Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and former chief ministers Bhupesh Baghel and Ashok Gehlot will also address public meetings in different constituencies, it said.

The party's campaign will conclude on May 5, two days before the polling to be held in Gujarat on May 7 for election to 25 out of 26 Parliamentary seats and by-election to five assembly seats.   WITH PTI INPUTS
