Most of us access ChatGPT on a smartphone via the official app or through a web browser. If you are a Nothing smartphone user, there is a unique way of accessing ChatGPT via the widgets, which gives quick access to ChatGPT directly from the home screen, without needing to open the app every time you have a query.

Currently available across the Nothing smartphone lineup, including the Phone (1) (review), the first-party ChatGPT widgets make it easy to access the AI chatbot, and it even offers a Google Lens-like capability to ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

What are ChatGPT widgets and how to use them?

Widgets on Android smartphones make accessing a specific feature of an app with just a tap, which is like a shortcut for a specific function of an app. While ChatGPT itself does not offer first-party widgets, Nothing has developed its own ChatGPT widgets, and users, who have installed the ChatGPT app from the Play Store can easily access these widgets with a simple click on the home page.

Nothing currently offers two different ChatGPT widgets — a single widget, which will just have one functionality, and a multiple widget, which combines all three search methods of ChatGPT into one single widget, and a user can swipe and choose the function of their choice.

ChatGPT currently accepts text, voice, and image inputs (only available for Plus users), and depending on the use case, one can add these widgets to the home screen, which when clicked, will trigger the ChatGPT app.

How to use ChatGPT widgets on a Nothing Phone?

Long press on the home screen > select the widget option > click on ChatGPT > and add a widget to your home screen. Before accessing these widgets, make sure you have already signed in to the ChatGPT app and that your phone has an active internet connection to use these widgets. Besides, one can also add a ChatGPT shortcut to the quick settings panel, which gives access to the ChatGPT all the time, even when another app is open.

What can ChatGPT widgets do?

ChatGPT widgets will enable users to access OpenAI's large language model — GPT 3.5 (free) or GPT 4/4 Turbo (paid) and search using any of the above-mentioned input methods. You can ask a query, and depending on your input method, ChatGPT will respond.

Nothing Phone users with ChatGPT Plus subscriptions can directly capture an image and ask for specific details about the same; this experience is powered by GPT 4 Turbo's vision capability, which will significantly cut down the time required to open the ChatGPT app each time there is a query.

Nothing Phones also have a generative AI wallpaper feature

While this isn't exactly related to ChatGPT, Nothing has enabled the generative AI wallpaper feature on the Nothing Phone (2) and the Phone (1). Again, this feature was first introduced on the Phone (2a) (review). This is a cloud-based service and requires an active internet connection, where users can generate custom wallpapers by mixing and matching predefined styles or by simply selecting the "surprise me" option. One can also download these AI-generated images and share them with friends and family.
