last year for allegedly circulating fake videos of migrants from Bihar being harassed in Tamil Nadu, joined BJP at a function organised at party headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday.

Kashyap had earlier announced to contest from Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha seat as an Independent. He accepted the BJP membership in presence of his mother.

BJP's Manoj Tiwari is believed to have paved the way for Kashyap's entrance in saffron party. Tiwari was also present at Thursday's function.

Kashyap said he has joined BJP at the instance of his mother, who is a big admirer of PM Narendra Modi. Kashyap, was released on bail on December 23 last year.

In a climbdown from his earlier stated stand, Kashyap said he would not contest Lok Sabha seat from Pashchim Champaran. He asserted that he would continue to work in the larger interest of the nation and its people.

"I was busy doing the same but some netas connived against me. As a result, I had to languish in jail for nine months," said YouTuber Kashyap.

Meanwhile, former BJP state president and party's Paschim Champaran candidate Sanjay Jaiswal welcomed Kashyap's induction in BJP.
