Delhi News Highlights: The mayoral polls for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which were scheduled for April 26 (Friday) were postponed after Delhi L-G V K Saxena said he deemed it inappropriate "to exercise my power as Administrator to appoint the Presiding Officer in absence of inputs from the Chief Minister." Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar jail in connection to the excise policy case.

A later date for holding the elections is yet to be issued. Till then, the incumbent mayor and deputy mayor will continue to hold their positions, the LG's letter said. The nomination of a presiding officer is mandatory to hold the MCD mayoral elections. But with CM Kejriwal lodged in jail, a timely election seems unlikely. The case, meanwhile, got more critical for the AAP chief, as the Enforcement Directorate told the Supreme Court that the AAP was a "major beneficiary" of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged scam.

It also alleged that the party committed the offence of money laundering through its national convener, Kejriwal, news agency PTI reported. The agency has claimed that investigation has revealed a part of proceeds of crime, around Rs 45 crore, was utilised in the AAP's 2022 Goa assembly poll campaign. Reacting to the ED's affidavit filed in the apex court, the AAP alleged the probe agency has become "a machine for telling lies".
