Lok Sabha Election Phase 2, Maharashtra Key Seats and Candidates

New Delhi,UPDATED: Apr 24, 2024 15:13 IST

In the second phase on April 26, Maharashtra's eight Lok Sabha constituencies are set for polling. Earlier, in the first phase on April 19, elections took place in Ramtek, Nagpur, Bhandara - Gondiya, Gadchiroli - Chimur, and Chandrapur. The upcoming second phase will witness voting in Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal - Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, and Parbhani.

During this phase, particular attention will be on Nanded and Amravati. Nanded's Lok Sabha constituency has traditionally been a Congress stronghold. However, with veteran leader Ashok Chavan, who previously represented the seat twice, now aligned with the BJP, the saffron party seems to be in a favourable position to secure the seat.

The BJP has nominated incumbent MP Pratap Patil Chikhalikar to contest against Vasant Chavan of the INDIA bloc. Additionally, the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has entered the competition by fielding Avinash Bhosikar this time around, a strategic move that could potentially benefit the saffron party by splitting anti-BJP votes.

However, in a significant political development this February, Ashok Chavan departed from the grand old party and joined the ruling BJP. He subsequently secured a seat in the Rajya Sabha as a candidate representing the saffron party later in the same month.
