While the T20 World Cup 2024 is just weeks away, following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, fans are hopeful that players bound for the USA and West Indies will gain form and momentum. In Match 55 of the IPL between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium, India captain Rohit Sharma again fell cheaply.

Chasing 174 runs, Pat Cummins dismissed the Hitman for just 4 runs off 5 balls. The SRH captain bowled a length delivery on middle, and Rohit attempted to flick it away behind square off his hips. However, he mistimed the shot, sending the ball straight up in the air off the leading edge. Keeper Heinrich Klaasen called for it early and took a simple catch.

Witnessing the Indian skipper's repeated failures has unsettled fans on X (formerly known as Twitter), especially with the World Cup drawing near.

As of writing this article, MI lost 3 wickets but witnessed a 100+ run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. Ishan Kishan departed early for 9 of 7, while Naman Dhir went for a duck after facing 9 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, and Pat Cummins each picked a wicket.

Earlier, SRH managed to score 173 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets. Travis Head (48 off 30) was the highest scorer for the Orange Army. Abhishek Sharma (11 off 16), Mayank Agarwal (5 off 6), Nitish Reddy (20 off 15), Klaasen (2 off 4), Marco Jansen (17 off 12), Shahbaz Ahmed (10 off 12), and Abdul Samad (3 off 4) fell at regular intervals. Pat Cummins scored 35 off 17 towards the end, while Sanvir Singh scored 8 off 7.

For MI, Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla claimed three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Anshul Kamboj each took one.
