(File photo) The 25-year-old ice cream vendor, who was recently stabbed to death near Delhi's India Gate, was reportedly assaulted because he was in a relationship with the same girl as the accused. A report in Times of India quoted New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla as saying that Wednesday was deceased's first day of selling ice cream at the C-Hexagon at India Gate. "The accused arrived in an autorickshaw and began searching for the ice-cream seller, who was identified as Prabhat, a resident of Sangam Vihar in south Delhi. He located Prabhat and talked with him. It soon turned into a scuffle, and he stabbed Prabhat in the neck, heart and stomach and then fled the spot," Mahla was further quoted. The report stated that the cops identified the assailant as Ajay, a resident of Gonda in UP. He was working as a casual worker and driver with a tent house in Noida. TOI also spoke to Prabhat's father, who said, "A few days, ago my son told me about his relationship with the girl and his desire to marry her. We also learnt that the girl's parents were ready to marry her off. We requested a meeting, but the girl wasn't not ready and we also didn't know that she was underage." The report stated that after being arrested, Ajay disclosed that he learnt about the girl's affair around 10 days ago and had talked to Prabhat about it. "During investigation, we got some leads that the girl had provoked Ajay by claiming that the victim harassed her and even blackmailed her," a police officer was quoted. The cop revealed that Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code related to criminal conspiracy would be invoked in the case. The girl was also apprehended by the police and will be questioned, the report added. According to the Delhi police, a case of murder under IPC Section 302 was registered and the accused was identified with the help of CCTV cameras that were installed in the nearby shops.
