PBKS vs CSK, IPL 2024: MS Dhoni achieved a remarkable feat during the IPL 2024 match 53 between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, May 5.

Dhoni etched his name in the history books as he became the first player to complete 150 catches in the history of the IPL.

The former CSK skipper headed into the all-important contest with 149 catches to his name and reached the milestone during Punjab's run chase.

The historic instance took place in the 10th over of Punjab's run chase when Jitesh Sharma edged one behind the stumps as Dhoni made no mistake with the catch.

This was Dhoni's 192nd dismissal in IPL as he also has 42 stumping dismissals to his name.

Dhoni is followed by RCB's Dinesh Karthik in the list, who has 144 catches with AB de Villiers placed at third spot, having taken 113 catches.

The former Indian skipper also created a unique record as it was the first time in IPL history when Dhoni came out to bat at no.8, sending the likes of Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur ahead of him.

However, he was dismissed for 0 on his very first ball in the 19th over by Harshal Patel.

Talking about the match, CSK defeated Punjab Kings by 28 runs, clinching their sixth win of the season and jumping to the third spot in the standings.

CSK had posted a challenging total of 167/9 in their 20 overs after being put into bat first with Ravindra Jadeja playing a crucial knock of 43 runs in just 26 balls.

The defending champions came up with a magnificent bowling effort to restrict the home side to 139/9 with Jadeja picking three wickets for just 20 runs in his four overs.

The five-time champions will be up against Gujarat Titans in their next match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 10.
