David Warner, the explosive Australian opener, expressed surprise and disappointment after being blocked by his former IPL team, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on social media.

The incident occurred in 2023, when Warner, playing for the Delhi Capitals, attempted to congratulate his compatriot Travis Head after being acquired by SRH. However, to his surprise, he discovered he was blocked by the franchise's official social media accounts.

Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad's all-time leading run-scorer, was a fan favourite before the team's relationship with him began to turn sour during the 2021 season. He was sacked from the captaincy and then axed from the team in 2021.

SRH released Warner ahead of the IPL mega auction in 2022, and then he joined Delhi Capitals.

Warner took to his own Instagram account and shared screenshots of the block along with a caption reflecting his mixed emotions.

On Monday, the renowned Australian cricketer appeared on R Ashwin's chat show, where he was asked about the incident. When Ashwin inquired if he was emotionally affected and hurt, Warner candidly admitted, "I was."

"The reason it hurt was because of the fans. In my opinion, the fans are the most crucial relationship a player can have. The level of engagement I had with the team and the fans was exceptional. I felt a sense of duty to interact with them," Warner revealed on the show titled Kutti Stories with Ash.

"Not sure why I was blocked. I have been sitting on it, but it was bizarre," he added.

Warner has had a bittersweet IPL in 2021 when he was sacked midway through the season. Back then, the southpaw was not happy with the manner in which he was discarded by the team.

"If you are going to drop a captain and then not pick him in the team after what he has done, what message does that send to the young kids in the team? What message does that send to the rest of the group? What hurt me the most is that the other guys are now thinking, 'oh, this could happen to me'," said Warner on the chat show Backstage with Boria.

"At the end of the day, whatever happens, cop it cop it on the chin. If you want to have those conversations, just have them. It's not hard. Don't shy away from them. I am not going to bite. I am going to sit here and accept that for what it is because you are not picking me in the team," he further added.
