Rohit Sharma's performance in IPL 2024 hasn't gone unnoticed as the Mumbai Indians opener has been scoring runs free glowingly. Despite Mumbai's struggle in the IPL this season, Rohit has been a rare shining light so far.

Hardik Pandya was handed the mantle as MI management decided to Rohit relieve of his captaincy but that hasn't yielded any results so far. Mumbai are currently deeply submerged in the bottom of the IPL table and there is a very slim chance of them making it to the playoffs this time.

Hardik's personal form also has been pretty poor as the MI skipper has barely managed to shine in his new role. Rohit will once again lead Team India in the ICC T20 World Cup and his performance in the tournament could decide his fate in the IPL mega auction which will be staged ahead of IPL 2025.

Former Indian cricketer and eminent commentator Deep Dasgupta believes Rohit's form in the remaining matches will be crucial if he is to be picked by another team in the mega auction.

Speaking to Star Sports Deep said, "You are playing for the pride of the team, you are playing as a professional cricketer and you are playing for your pride as well. You don't want to play a game and not want to perform. Everytime you cross the line, you want to do your best.

"Let's not forget that next year is the big auction. This is the last few opportunities that all the professional cricketers have. Even if the team is not going to qualify, at least to put up a good show and tell everyone, 'You know what, I am there'. He is such an integral part of the team since he is the captain, but he sets the tone as well at the top of the order. That's what he has been doing for the last year and a half."

Mumbai Indians will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in a do or die IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium as a loss in this game will end their IPL playoff hopes.
