Sharmin Segal, who plays Alamzeb in the Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is facing backlash from some viewers who claim she landed the role only due to nepotism, as she is director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece. Despite praise for co-stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin's performance has been heavily criticised on social media, compelling her to disable comments on an Instagram post featuring her with Bhansali at the recent premiere of Heeramandi in Los Angeles.

Segal's previous Instagram post from a magazine shoot, in her Alamzeb avatar, has also received negative comments, with users describing her acting as wooden and expressionless. Others have questioned her casting, saying other actresses were more deserving of the role.

"I really dont like her as Alam .. no expression same expression(sic)?" a user commented, another one called Sharmin, "The most inexpressive actress."

Sharmin made her acting debut in 2019 with Malaal, produced by Bhansali Productions. Her casting in Heeramandi has led to accusations of favouritism, further fuelled by recently resurfaced photos of Segal with Janhvi Kapoor.

Sharing a bunch of screenshots of the 28-year-old's old posts from Instagram, on Reddit, netizens started discussing the actor's visibly changed appearance. In the photographs that surfaced, Sharmin looks unrecognisable.
