The Met Office says snow could fall into Friday as the final snowfall of the year materialises across parts of Scotland and also England. Despite snowfall north of the border, it is actually England that'll shiver in the lowest temperatures amid a sub-zero freeze.

Eastern England is expected to bear the brunt of the chilly weather. The Met Office has predicted snowfall on hilly areas and at elevated levels as the country experiences a shivering downturn in conditions as we head deeper into April and towards May.

The BBC team says: "Clear spells developing for most overnight. North Sea coasts in east Scotland and north-east England will see showers continue, wintry over the hills. Cloudy with lingering rain in the far south.

"Tomorrow will be a day of sunshine and showers for many, particularly in the north and east. The far south-west may see some longer spells of heavy rain and turning cloudy across the south later on." Looking ahead from April 30 to May 9, the Met Office has had its say.

"The period is likely to start with areas of organised rain and/or showers in the west, and largely dry conditions in the east although a scattering of showers developing by day. As the week progresses thes more organised areas of rain and showers are likely to slide southeast to affect southern parts of the UK, with drier weather in northern, especially northwestern UK," it said.

"Winds will gradually turn from southerly to easterly, with a chance of rain or even thundery showers for a time in the east and southeast. Temperatures likely to trend upwards, with the chance of a warm to very warm spell in some southern and eastern parts, before conditions probably turn gradually drier, cooler and more settled from the west towards the end of the period."
