Tom Brady's soccer team Birmingham City is RELEGATED

Birmingham City have been relegated from the Championship in a disastrous first season for Tom Brady and the club's American ownership. 

The Blues beat Norwich City 1-0 on the final day of the season but results elsewhere meant they will play in the third tier next season. 

Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl winner, is the public face of the club's ambitious ownership group. He was not at Saturday's game, but instead enjoying himself at the Miami Grand Prix.

Led by chairman Tom Wagner and chief executive Garry Cook, they have plans worth £2billion to transform Birmingham City's fortunes but they took a significant blow on Saturday.

But they controversially sacked manager John Eustace in October and replaced him with Wayne Rooney as they sought a high-profile manager to take them to the next level.

It backfired spectacularly as they collected nine points from 15 games and Rooney was sacked in January.

Relegation to the third tier of English soccer means they will play against Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham next season.

Wins for Sheffield Wednesday at Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers at Leicester City and Plymouth against Hull rendered Seung-ho Paik's 55th-minute header irrelevant as Birmingham's 13-year tenure in the Championship came to an apologetic end.

A five minute delay halfway through the first half due to a medical issue in a capacity crowd of 27,680 at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park meant this game was always going to finish after their rivals.

And so by the final whistle, the atmosphere was already philosophical, with home fans singing 'Que Sera Sera, wherever we'll be we'll be, we're going to Shrewsbury'.

Hundreds of young fans invaded the pitch at the final whistle and a ball was produced, with the surreal sight of a match taking place before the packed stands.

Birmingham wasted chances galore in a tense first half.

They got the goal they desperately needed when Paik diverted home after Keshi Anderson's shot as blocked by the sliding Ben Gibson and the ball bounced up for a header.

With the scores coming through from elsewhere, the atmosphere dropped inside the ground and any momentum from Blues seemed to drain out of the players.

There was a delay while Norwich defender Shane Duffy had treatment for a cut above his eye which allowed a concussion substitute in Danny Batth.

With results elsewhere already in, relegation had already been confirmed before the final whistle. But several hundred Blues supporters still invaded the pitch after the final whistle.
