BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — Unified Command plans to use explosives to remove wreckage from The Dali this week.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore confirmed the use of explosives for this task in a press conference on Tuesday.

The crews that are still on board will shelter in place during the operation.

Moore says it's a necessary step in the recovery efforts.

Unified Command salvors are continuing wreckage removal from the Dali in preparation for the removal of the "section four" bridge span.

They are also refloating the vessel and including cuts to this large concrete.

Today marks six weeks since the tragic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
